Wings seeking 'chaos and confusion'

07:16 AM ET 05.06 | On this much, Red Wings players and head coach Mike Babcock can agree: Life has been too easy for Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller. "I'm glad they're saying it because I've been saying that," [Babcock] said. ... The Red Wings mustered only 23 shots in Game 1 and just 22 on Game 3. This team isn't as offensively gifted as past Red Wings teams. It must work harder for its goals. But it didn't generate much attack in its losses. "I think Hiller definitely had a night off (Saturday)," [Daniel Cleary] said. "We have to be hard on him. I think the focus on Monday will be getting pucks to the net from all different areas, getting traffic. Just create some sort of chaos and confusion."

No deep run for the Wings this year. It was a wonder that they made the playoffs at all.

At least they made the playoffs. I am sure many thought they wouldn't even do that.

Not only that, but they're moving into what on paper looks like it'll be the toughest division in hockey. Could be a long couple years in Motown.

And just when the CBC is lobbying for an extra Saturday to added to each month during the season. :-(

Sounds like the way they HAVE been playing ......only dazed and confused would probably be a better description

CBC is probably gonna lose HNIC next year anyway.

I'm looking forward to the next 57 versions of "Anne of Green Gables".

Tired and rusted. They need to get younger fast.

We all knew game 3 was lost the moment the Wings got nothing out of their first period extended 5-on-3, but I'm not quite ready to put a fork in the series just yet. We need to see what happens in game 4 first.

It must be nice for you to at least see some breathable air.

What, you don't think Brunner's powerplay "move" was a heady play?

QUOTE(#9):

I do.But I also look at Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and to a point Florida (this season notwithstanding) as three of the youngest, most promising teams in the league. I see Boston. I see a rebuilding Buffalo that, if done right, could be in playoff contention again in two years. I see Tampa with one of the game's best players and a 3rd overall pick to get another star/trade for D. Then I see the Wings with aging stars, a bare cupboard, and Jimmy Howard who's looked pretty rank so far this postseason.

You shouldn't include the Leafs in that .... they're a 1 and done

They are younger. It didn't specifically help this year, the Wings were still carried by the star vets, namely Hank, Dats, and Kronwall. Younger didn't fully answer the bell this season. They need...better? Yes, their number one priority in free agency should be "better." Like my usual joking mantra to my teammates on the ice "Better, stronger, faster...more an emphasis on the first part."

This is the first year Emmerton has played an entire season in the NHL. Brunner, Nyquist, Andersson, Smith, Lashoff and DeKeyser are all rookies. They are getting younger fast... perhaps too fast.
