Abdelkader suspension shows NHL's inconsistency

06:40 PM ET 05.06 | Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader was suspended two games by the league for his hit on Toni Lydman, but it has a lot of people rolling their eyes. This points to is another example of the NHL playing by its own inconsistent rules when it comes to discipline for hits during games. The two-game suspension handed to Abdelkader is the same exact punishment handed to Senators defenseman Eric Gryba for his bloody hit on Lars Eller. But while Gryba's hit was nasty aesthetically, it looked like a legal hit that just ended up looking way worse than it really was. It can be argued that Gryba hit Eller's head, but the blood that everyone saw came from Eller's head hitting the ice, not from Gryba hitting Eller. It wasn't a good situation, but it also wasn't as bad or as malicious as Abdelkader's hit on Lydman.

Shoulder. Minor penalty maybe at most. It was reckless, it wasn't dangerous. Can't name too many times a player has been injured from a high shoulder. Then again, Leafs coulda done without him last night. Love his inability to keep the puck on the good side of the blue line.

Speaking of Celine.....I loved his impersonation of a moonwalking flamingo on Boston's first goal. Priceless. I'm sure even Little Jimmy said a few bad words.
