Will the Vikings rue the day they cut Chris Kluwe?

06:43 PM ET 05.06 | The inevitable finally became reality. The Minnesota Vikings will release punter Chris Kluwe, the player tweeted on Monday. "Thank you to all the fans, my teammates, and the Wilf family for the past 8.5 years," Kluwe said. "I wouldn't have traded it for anything." Kluwe said earlier this week that he would like to compete for his job, but also said he would like an early release to find an opportunity with another team if the decision to go with rookie Jeff Locke was already set. One thing that has been overlooked is that Kluwe, along with Cullen Loeffler and Walsh, combined to create one of the most successful field goal teams in the past decade. Walsh's Pro Bowl season, at least in part, can be attributed to this three-man field goal team.

Yes, being the holder on kicking tries is important (Google "Romo, Seattle, Playoffs"), they are not irreplaceable.

You are not allowed to have a contrary opinion on special (gay) rights in this country anymore. The folks who screamed the longest and loudest about tolerance for so long have exposed themselves as the most intolerant of the bunch.

I don't know. He seems to have left in a manner that showed a lot of class. Too bad he didn't show it while he was there.

Yeah.... because they punted so much last year?Idiot.

If you think AP is going to go off for 2,000 again, I'd suggest you're the idiot my friend to the west.

He's right, you know. I looked it up. Minnesota was 22nd in number of punts last season.

But, Stop the presses!

I looked it up. They were also 22nd in punt yard average, and 22nd in punt yards net. I don't know whether that's important, but perhaps someone with a doctorate in public service could explain it to us.

Probably not, because defenses tend to adjust to stuff like that, but I will be cheering for him if he gets close.
