04:48 PM ET 05.06 | Linebacker prospect Matthew Thomas was one of the top players in the 2013 class and chose to sign with Florida State, though he says he was never completely sold on playing football for the Seminoles. Now he would like out of his letter of intent in order to pursue his career elsewhere -- both Georgia and USC would be potential landing spots should he be granted his release. Florida State's coaching staff does not want to grant him that release at this point, though, and they are planning a visit with Thomas in an effort to talk him into sticking with the Seminoles.

Why make him stay, if he doesn't want to???? Did the kid sign a LOI""" If he did, then make the kid sit out a year!!!

Yes he did sign an LOI in Feb..Dnt know why he signed wit FSU to begin with...Go home and play for the U

Thanks, that answers my question. If the kid wants to get out of his LOI, doesn't he have to sit out a year???. Just curious!! I'm not so sure he wants to play for the U, as they might been on probation for a awhile!!!

Yeah, that's probably why he committed to FSU. Because he wanted to be a Trojan so bad.

Makes sense.

Because he signed a letter of intent.

Fairly simple, really. FSU saved a spot for the kid and now he wants to leave? No.

Simple as that.

Well, can't the kid transfer and "sit out a year"???

Yeah, if FSU releases him from his scholarship. But the Noles have stated that they don't intend to do so, and I don't blame them.

They spent a lot of time recruiting the kid and saved a spot for him. If he never wanted to be a Nole he should've left that spot open for another recruit who means what he says.

Maybe, just maybe, USC didn't have a Scholarship to offer the kid at the time!!! Maybe one has opened recently!!!

No... what happened was the kid felt pressed into making a decision on Signing Day. Apparently the kid didn't know where he wanted to go to school and his mom suggested FSU so he went with it, only to now change his mind.

He wants to go to Georgia now, or maybe USC. I saw an interview where he said he wanted to be a Bulldog, though.

Yeah, no argument from me on your statement "They spent a lot of time recruiting the kid and saved a spot for him. If he never wanted to be a Nole he should've left that spot open for another recruit who means what he says", but I think the kid can still transfer down the line and sit out a year.

Thanks for the info, but I'm not sure the kid knows who he wants to play for!!! The kid is confused!! :-)

He signed the LOI because his mom wouldn't sign the one he really wanted, and that was SC. The kid gave interviews and stated exactly that.

Listen to us.
Adults arguing about a teenager making an impulsive decision he now regrets. What a surprise.
He's a kid; let him grow up. These "commitments" for adolescents are like a decision to change girlfriends/boyfriends.
Let him grow up, give it a rest.
