05:12 PM ET 05.06 | Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw, considered one of the hottest head coaching candidates in the league, has reportedly been granted permission to speak with the Brooklyn Nets about their vacancy. Pacers team president Donnie Walsh discussed Shaw's potential as a coach recently, noting that he expects Shaw to be a possible target for Brooklyn. "I think Brian would be great as a head coach. Just as I thought Mark Jackson would be a tremendous coach, I feel the same way about Brian. They both know the game, you can tell they see it like head coaches. And they also know how to relate to players and get them to do what they need to be successful," Walsh said. Shaw, a 14-year veteran of the NBA, won three championships while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers during the Kobe-Shaq heyday.

Can he be as good as Mark Jackson or will he be the next Avery Johnson, only time will tell.

I'm not bought into Shaw's ability as a HC. Mark did show glimpses of smartness during commentary although his style of commenting really sucked.
Nets are or should be in a "win now" mode, and as such a rookie HC is not advisable.
