A-Rod won't guarantee 2013 return

07:07 AM ET 05.07 | Alex Rodriguez has the optimistic lines down -- he has "unfinished business" and the end of his season was "embarrassing" -- but being eager and being ready are two different things. Perhaps because the surgery required inserting anchors into the joint and shaving the bone, along with a lengthy rehab process, the Yankee third baseman stopped short of guaranteeing a return this season after participating in baseball activities on Monday for the first time since the surgery in January. The Yankees had predicted that A-Rod would return to the field after the All-Star break, but asked if he is certain he'll be back, the 37-year-old Rodriguez said, "I really hope so. I really hope so. That's as specific as I'll get."

Oooooh ... I was going to comment and it would have been funny if I had ... because I think it would have screwed you up.

So, what do you think about A-Rod here clem. He hopes he'll be playing this season. Do you think anyone else is too?

.....whats the hurry....take the year off to fully recover and not endanger your career....the yanks need you at 3b as a anchor for the infiled for years to come....

I'm sure the Yankees would like to get something for the money they are paying him.

Wow. This is the most cogent and on point comment I've ever heard you make.

I dunno ... it was a little alacran-ish.

Upon further review, I see your point.

Fine by me Alex. Take all the time you need, say five years.

The "baseball activities" were riding around on a Rascal and picking up BP balls, so I'm not too optimistic.
Actually, I am optimistic, because I don't like the guy.

I like that they use this picture of ARod all the time because it looks like he's taking a dump right on the field...which I think accurately reflects his respect for the game.

He still doesn't get the fact that no one misses him.

Or, he could be getting ready for Tex.

That would make Jeter jealous.

Na, Derek has moved on. Arod is damaged goods.

May 7, 2013  09:38 AM ET

I'm waiting for other guys to return, like Granderson, Jeter and Tex. Not so much A-Rod.

Maybe if he had gotten the surgery in October rather than waiting most of the offseason, he'd be ready sooner.

After his performance last year, does it really matter.

Anchors weigh things down....so that's probably accurate.
