03:36 PM ET 05.07 | San Francisco 49ers left guard Mike Iupati had shoulder surgery and is unlikely to participate in OTAs, according to the Sacramento Bee. It's considered a minor procedure and he's expected to be at full strength for training camp. The extent of Iupati's shoulder injury is unknown, but it has apparently been an issue for some time. He first popped up on the injury report in Week 14 and stayed there for the rest of the regular season and postseason, although he never missed a game. He last had shoulder surgery back in 2007 at Idaho. Iupati has started every game in his three years with the 49ers and played 98 percent of their snaps last season.

Sometimes when someone plays with more noted players, they tend to get lost in the appreciation. This guy is one of the best guards in the NFL...

Lots of minor procedures eventually have major consequences.

Generally the affects pile up over time and eventually they need a new shoulder. That should be long after he's done playing ball.
