08:06 PM ET 05.07 | Apparently the Minnesota Vikings were not impressed enough during their three-day rookie minicamp to sign undrafted free-agent wide receiver Duron Carter, son of Viking great Cris Carter. Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, Mike Florio of NBCSports.com reports Carter didn't do enough on a tryout basis at the team's camp to get the team to offer him a contract. Carter was invited to rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, with no guarantees of a contract. It was widely reported as a fact by ESPN that Carter was going to sign with the Vikings but it appears as though we have another case of sports networks jumping the gun on story before it actually happens. Carter may sign somewhere ,it just won't be in Minnesota.

Don't worry, Duron. With a name like that you can still be glue-in-a-tube or spray paint or something.

May 8, 2013  07:32 AM ET

Guess he'll just have to settle for being the son of a HOF'er.

If he was twins they could call them Duron Duron.

Isn't this the guy who wore the uniform of four different College teams but didn't play much for any of them?

What a surprise he didn't make it with the Vikings!!!

Yes. He played one season for Ohio State before becoming academically ineligible. Then he transferred to a JC (where the QB blasted him for being the laziest human ever). Then he transferred to Alabama and never saw the field because of academics. Then I think he went to FIU but wasn't granted a waiver to play immediately and not sit out a year.

It makes me wonder if they cut him because he couldn't read the playbook. If the guy has ZERO study habits, how is he ever going to learn an NFL playbook...in spite of how hard his daddy pushes his ability to be an NFL receiver. He probably has the talent but he's lazy, and not the sharpest tool in the shed.

POOR PARENTING - What else could you attribute it to? His parents allowed him to but athletics before education.

To a point I agree but isn't he at some time responsible for his own successes and failures? This kid's got to be 20+ years old, I'd say that time has come.

The only way he could get on the field was to sneak on at halftime with the marching band.

Still, you're right on the coverage. Where the hell is the tuba player?

Just living off his pops' name! No work ethic whatsoever! It was a courtesy signing on behalf of the Vikes!
