Jarrett's last ride at Daytona
Dale Jarrett, a three-time winner of the Budweiser Shootout, is preparing to head to Daytona International Speedway for the final time as a full-time driver. He'll race in the non-points Shootout on Saturday night, then attempt to qualify his No. 44 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota for the Daytona 500 the following day. Jarrett, who is outside the top 35 in owners points, must either qualify in one of the top two spots, post a time fast enough to get in after the qualifying races or race his way in through a qualifying race to make the race. He also has access to the past champions provisional, but Kurt Busch is ahead of him as a more recent champion who is outside of the top 35. However, if Busch does not need the provisional, its possible Jarrett could use it if needed.

ok... here goes.. golffan and yoda .. why should he hang it up? hey if he wants to race and he can get a ride let him go.... if some youngster wants the ride then let him earn it... i am not a big fan of all these youngsters showing up in cup and thinking they are the second coming of god almighty, they need to learn respect for the guys who were doing this while the youngsters were still poo pooing green.....yeah he wants to retire and he has nothing left to prove but why should he cater to all the naysayers who holler hang it up.... he can still get the job done and he has forgotten more than most of the youngsters will ever know...

It's been almost 30 years and I can't believe my 'ol time favorite, Buddy Baker, still holds the record for running the fastest (177.60mph) Daytona 500 ever.

Anyone over 45 years old should hang it up. Ernhart couldn't quit and look where it got him. What puzzles me is that DE was the most vilified driver in NASCAR while he was alive and after his demise he was worshiped by people who didn't even know what NASCAR was. Hero worship is a funny game.

In 38 years I've cheered for David Pierson, Davey Allison, Ernie Irvin and Dale Jarret. I guess my time has come to find someone else. Good Luck Dale, I'll be pulling for ya at Daytona.

Man, that sounds like a eulogy.
Dale is good people. Always has been. I too like him in the booth. I'd rather hear him than Rusty. He has the greatest commericals.
