03:24 PM ET 05.08 | NFL was in 1997 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he was teammates with some of the best young players in the league, such as Warrick Dunn, John Lynch, Warren Sapp, Mike Alstott, and Derrick Brooks. While all of those players moved on from the Bucs and eventually retired, Barber has been the one constant in Tampa Bay for the last 16 years. Until now. Barber told Jay Glazer that he will retire rather than play for a 17th season.

Good for him, and not a moment too soon, unlike his brother.

Ronde Barber is a total class act and will be missed. Good luck in the future Ronde!!!

His longevity and relevance is impressive. Plus, he'll always look golden compared to his brother.

Couldn't agree more. Played at a high level throughout his career. Did his talking on the field. 100% class act all the way.

He'll be missed;
He was one of best Buccaneers of all time!

Is he anywhere near as much of a scumbag **** as Tiki?

May 8, 2013  04:43 PM ET

Good Guy, hope they retire his number!

They should. Class act, defensive stalwart, and a decent dude. Represented the franchise well, ala John Lynch and Derrick Brooks (I'll leave Sapp out of this equation, obviously).

Will be a future HOF.

Good luck Ronde, well done! Don't go into broadcasting.....bad mojo!

That was an amazing group of players that Barber played alongside. Hopefully he'll get a nice, cushy front office gig, or ESPN or the NFLN will seek him out.

And they had a great coach in Tony Dungy, too.

He was the professional Barber.

Nope. Even though they're twins they couldn't be more different. Rhonde is a straight up, good guy and Hall of Fame worthy.

I share your sentiments on Tiki, however.

I say 75% chance he gets in the HoF. The best argument for him is he was excellent in all phases of the game. He could play zone, man to man, rush the passer and provide run support. He was one of the best open field tacklers I have ever seen. And on top of that, a class act at all times. And I think that will be the thing that gets him over the top.

What??? You have an issue with Tiki banging the baby sitter and then dumping his pregnant wife for her? Picky picky ...

It depends on what your definition of "work" is...
