10:35 PM ET 05.08 | So long, Candlestick Park. It's all about Levi's Stadium after next season. San Francisco jeans-maker Levi Strauss & Co. has been given naming rights to the San Francisco 49ers' new stadium in Santa Clara in a 20 year, $220 million deal, with an option to extend the deal another five years for around $75 million, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Founded in 1873 in San Francisco, Levi Strauss is credited for being the first company to manufacture blue jeans. Along with a green roof, it will feature "stadium-wide WiFi capability, mobile connectivity, IPTV, and colossal HD video boards measuring over 13,000 square feet, no one will miss a minute of the action," according to the stadium's official website. Having driven past the new stadium many a times and seen the structure go up slowly but surely, it's hard to believe that construction began just over a year ago, yet 49ers football will be played at Levi's Stadium starting in 2014.

I guess it would make sense if the stadium was in San Francisco. Alas, it is not.

I'm so glad they created another thread for this

The nickname I heard on the radio this morning was gold: Field of Jeans

May 9, 2013  08:46 AM ET

Does this mean that the price of blue jeans will go up 100% to help pay for the naming rights?

May 9, 2013  08:49 AM ET

In other stadium news, the Oakland Raiders have announced that American Standard and Kohler are bidding for the naming rights to their stadium.

Very good GoldenBoy.

Jed York refered to it as " The field of Jeans".

As a motivational speech Harbaugh can now say; " Win one for the Zipper ".

Since Levi's are famous for their copper rivets. Every experience at Levi Stadium should be riveting.

May 9, 2013  10:50 AM ET

The stadiums new theme song will be the Neil DIamond classic " Forever in Blue Jeans " and Jed York will now be known as Reverend Blue Jeans.

The first line of the song is so appropriate in how Levi's got the naming rights " Money Talks, but it don't sing and dance, and it don't walk".

The only stadium that shrinks to fit in a rainstorm.
