Cowboys future in limbo for Free

06:57 AM ET 05.09 | Doug Free might be back -- or maybe he won't. He might take a pay cut. He might not. The right tackle offered little of substance about his future Wednesday at The Ballpark in Arlington during the Cowboys' charity fundraiser benefiting The Salvation Army. "Really nothing to talk about right now," Free said. "There's a lot going on and stuff, but I'm just happy to be here." The Cowboys want to keep Free despite his struggles last season when he had a team-leading 13 penalties, including five holds, and allowed seven sacks. He played better late in the season when he played in a rotation with Jermey Parnell. The Cowboys have asked Free to take a pay cut from the $7 million salary he is scheduled to make.

He needs to be gone, and if they can't find someone better than him, they are in a lot of trouble on the O-line.

Just cut his damn arce on 6/1 and be done with it.

Why bother to write a story where all you do is say you know nothing?

Looks like nothing's free any more.

How about us giving Terrell Owens a chance, and stop listening to thoes none Cowboy Fans critics. Thoes people that don't want the Cowboys to win are not fans of them but oponent. I think that Terrell Owens give Dallas a fighting chance. Lets not be stupid Dallas!!!!!!

GO TERRELL OWENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May 9, 2013  08:55 AM ET

Here is the problem, assuming the information I looked up is correct: You can save some cap room, but the RT market is thin by now and you end up overpaying for a RT that may or may not be better.

If you ask Free to give back too much, then he says no, because he can that or more with another team....

If the Cowboys cut him after June 1st, then his cap hit will be $4,175,000 in 2013 and 2014.

Actually, the definition of "stupid Dallas" would be signing this waste product diva.

Free is gone. Max Starks is out there for half the price and he's better. Dallas really should think about getting a GM that knows what they are doing.

Sort of a Catch-22 situation. If they had printed the information you looked up it would explain the difficult situation Dallas is in.

If they cut him they end up with the same total cap hit after replacing him, and who says Winston or anybody left out there , is better? That is why they are still out there. Sorry Cowboy fans, but I would try to fix him as best I can, give him some help on some plays and plan better next year.

OTs catch a lot of blame, not always their fault. If you cannot block long enough to keep stretching the field, then maybe your playbook is part of the problem?

There's that too! And it seems a mystery as to who will make the offensive calls this season. Initally JJ said it would not be Garrett but he has since backtracked without being specific.

The bit I read was Romo gets more input, but Garrett is not really letting go of anything....Garrett sees himself as an offensive mind, he will not give that up easily. Human dynamics at play.
