Datsyuk's time in Detroit dwindling

07:18 AM ET 05.09 | Playing with Detroit over the past decade or so has its advantages -- and Pavel Datsyuk won his first cup during his rookie season. This is the time of year Datsyuk loves best, when the run to the Stanley Cup championship is on and every day and every game grows in significance. ... [Henrik Zetterberg] joked there wasn't anything left to say about Datsyuk. Maybe just one thing, for the Wings: Please stay. Datsyuk has one year left on his contract. He said he isn't thinking about what he will do when that expires, because "I have another year I can stay for sure. I like Detroit. I like it, it's nice. Like playoffs. It's different level, energy. Fans in jerseys, painted faces. It's more fun. You feel bumps."

Probably all comes down to where he wants his family to be...

more than likely. Now THIS is a guy anyone would want on their team

If it is time to reload in DET, then he probably gets shipped out.

And yes, it is time to reload in DET.

Good thing they already locked up their franchise goalie LMAO

Holland has already been pushing Datsyuk for a contract extension. He's not getting "shipped out". If Datsyuk ever plays for another NHL team besides the Red Wings, it will be because he decided to let his contract expire and play free agency (highly unlikely).

And Detroit IS reloading. Their third line of Brunner, Andersson and Nyquist are all rookies. So are three of their top six defensemen (Smith, Lashoff, DeKeyser). And they're still playing stride-for-stride with the best teams in the league.

Class act, and a great player. Wish him the best wherever he may land.

It would be hard to see him in anything but the red and white

One of the best 2 way players in the game.

like RP said...the only way he's anywhere else in the NHL is because HE wants to be there...not because they sent him to another team. If he decided that's what he wanted I'd wish him nothing but the best. My thought is that if he goes anywhere it's back to Russia.
Wings are going to be fine...they've got some great rookies and the farm system has some others that are just waiting to get to the NHL.

I thought this was a family site?

He is the man and the Wings know it. Even Zetterberg knows it. When Pavel is on the ice I'm always rewinding and saying how the hell did he do that. Or just so I could see what he did.

He had that one play last night where he chased the puck with a defenseman behind the net and fell to the ice, and while on his knees still stickhandled the puck through the d-man's feet and fired a pass out in front of the net, albeit to no avail. And he had so many scoring chances. Complete barely begins to describe him.

So unfortunate not to win last night. The 5 minute PP really came at a bad time. It killed any urgency they may have had. And you just knew a 2 minute minor was forthcoming somehow.

Friggin' Getzlaf.....

oh I don't know...I think he'd look okay in Red/White/Blue at The Garden.
It'd be weird at first...but I think I could adjust!

I agree. Every team would love to have him but I think he'll end his career as a Wing.

I will go out on a limb and say Calgary would welcome him with open arms.

How about Datsyuk's play that set up Samuelsson's goal last night?

In his own zone, Datsyuk retrieves a loose puck off the boards, gets tripped, and as he's sliding on his stomach along the ice wires a perfect pass to Zetterberg streaking down the center of the ice.
