Nets looking at Doc Rivers?

03:47 PM ET 05.09 | The Brooklyn Nets whiffed with their attempts to hire Phil Jackson as their next head coach, but they've got an equally bold - and probably unlikely - choice next up: Boston's Doc Rivers.

Stephen A. Smith reports that Mikhail Prokhorov and his general manager, Billy King, will keep aiming high. The Nets will need to get permission from the Celtics to talk to Rivers - already a longshot, considering most teams likely would go to great lengths to prevent a division opponent from taking their coach. Then, they'll have to convince Rivers to leave a comfortable situation in Boston, where he's coached for nine seasons and has three more on his contract.

Smith said other options should Rivers not be interested include Indiana assistant Brian Shaw and SMU coach Larry Brown.

They should go after Larry Brown.

Doc ain't happening, but it's certainly worth a try.

I think PJ did a great job given he never run his own training camp and inherited the same bunch of players who were used to playing a certain. I think they should have kept him for continuity. I don't think Doc is the answer though... for some reason I can't see him leaving Celts.
Celts should keep Garnet and Pierce and give it another go. With a healthy Rondo they'll be as good as any team.

I think that Celtics window for championships with this group is closed. With that said, I don't think Doc should leave. They can add pieces around Rondo and Green and become very competitive again in the near future. Time to let KG and Pierce go, though.

Of course, because we all know Larry Brown will want to stay forever!

PJ did do a great job this year. Of the options listed above, I think it's time that Brian Shaw gets a shot. I don't know that this is the right job opening for him though.

Doc would be perfect in purple and gold!

The Nets have a 3-4 year window.

They should done that last season itself, I really didn't understand why they wanted Pierce back with a new contract and KG too. Rebuilding should have started long time ago.

The words "Larry Brown" have become a reliable punchline fit for insertion into any sports joke. Whenever I hear the name I can't help but to laugh HEARTILY.
