02:42 PM ET 05.10 | It's official: The San Francisco 49ers will be playing their homes games at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara beginning with the 2014 season. Levi's will pay the organization $220 million over 11 years for the naming rights, making it one of the most expensive stadium sponsorship deals in American sports. Levi's $11 million per season is less than only the $16 million that MetLife Insurance is currently paying for the naming rights to MetLife Stadium, and the $20 million that Citigroup is paying to the New York Mets for the rights to Citi Field. The 49ers could have had the richest deal in the NFL if they had been able to lock up the $330 million deal they were reportedly seeking a few months back. The 49ers jumped past Reliant Stadium ($10 million/season for the Houston Texans), Gillette Stadium ($8 million/season for the New England Patriots), and University of Phoenix Stadium ($7.72 million/season for the Arizona Cardinals) to take on the second-best sponsorship deal in the NFL on an annual revenue basis

Am I missing something? The deal says that Levi's is paying $220MM over 11 years for naming rights. That's $20MM per year. How does that equate to the $11MM per year that they're saying the deal is worth?

Maybe there's a $99 mil signing bonus???

It's a 20 year deal. It's too much to expect the T&R interns to transpose articles verbatim. They probably plagiarize on their term papers, too.

Good ole fashion American accounting. Only place in the world where you can take in $23 billion dollars and claim you lost $24 billion, and still be in business next year.

...and they wonder how the national debt got out of hand.

I'm a Cowboy fan and I'd still chip in for that!

The timing couldn't have been better for the 49ers... I doubt they'd have been able to get that price for naming rights if they weren't contenders like they are right now.

But when you go 16 years and don't even make honorable mention, then you are not that disappointed....Really.

Santa Clara is about 50 miles from San Francisco.
