Crosby, Ovechkin, Tavares named Hart Trophy Finalists

08:03 PM ET 05.10 | The NHL wasn't sure if there would even be a season in 2013, but after the lockout wiped out only bits of the season, the league is now ready to hand out some hardware for the work put in by players in the shortened season. The Hart Trophy is the most coveted award in hockey next to a Stanley Cup, but while the Cup is won in a battle of East versus West, the Hart Trophy finalists this year all come from the same conference. Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby, Washington's Alex Ovechkin and the Isles' John Tavares were all named Hart Trophy finalists for the 2013 season, and it's an announcement that has some people up in arms, including others in the Eastern Conference. The only name most people won't be familiar with is New York's John Tavares, who has led the Isles to not only a playoff berth but is helping to keep them in their series against the Penguins. The Isles hadn't been to the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2007, but Tavares' 28 goals and 47 points helped land New York back in the postseason.

Pretty much expected this.

How come only Crosby's name includes a link to his profile in this post, does Fan Nation not consider Ovechkin and Tavares worthy enough? Just sayin'.

This is gonna be a close one. For Ovie and JT, their teams dont make it to the dance if they didnt catch fire down the stretch. For Syd, he scored all his pts. In 30 something games.

I really like what Tavares is doing but it will probably be Crosby. If the Rangers beat the Caps though......

He'd have had a chance if played in a hockey market. ;-)

Tavares had a monster year. Because Sid was hurt and Ovie didn't start out well... I'd actually like to see him get it. Consistent all year and of course, the Isles were a surprise team this year.

I don't know Dave. I've been told most of the Pens fans spend their weekends helping the homeless, being Big Brothers and Sisters, and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

Except for BF. He's not a liar. :-)

None of these guys including Phil are any more valuable to their team than Pavel Datsyuk is to the Wings.

Speaking of snubbed.....

The real issue is it's only slightly less than 60% of a real Hart - hence not even quite a har - how Nat Ho app-ropos. Been an awfully long time since a D or a G got even a mention - guess the Fs are the only 'reel' playeurs. G.Ari Batesmoon disapproves this massage. Toews - yes, St. Louis - yes, P. K. - yes, Selanne - maybe, Quick - maybe, Callahan - yes, Kane - maybe, Ladd - maybe, Anderson - definitely, Reimer and Elliot - both definitely. The three above aren't bad choices either - just sayin', this process, as it is presently, is as sucky as it possibly cud be. Get rid of the tiny commisar and cuzzin' Festor (and their positions as they currently exist, as well). Set the referees FREE. And get rid of 90% of the common 'tators.
