Fixing Flyers starts with dumping Ilya Bryzgalov

09:21 AM ET 05.11 | THE ASSIGNMENT was a daunting one. Fix the Flyers' goaltending. How do you fix something that has been more or less broken since the 1987 Stanley Cup final? My opinion is not a popular one. Well, at least, judging by my inbox and Twitter feed. I would use one of the compliance buyouts on Ilya Bryzgalov this summer. Before firing off an email - obvious subject line: "Hey @$*#)$* stop running Bryzgalov out of town!" - hear me out. Bryzgalov's tenure with the Flyers got off to a rocky start two seasons ago. It began with being "lost in the woods," followed by a temporary ban from talking to the media, before Bryzgalov introduced the entire universe to his world via the magic of HBO. The highlights (lowlights?) have included a thermos, teammates chirping off-the-record about his sleeping habits in meetings, and a female reporter's blouse. Almost every single moment generated chatter in the Flyers' locker room - and not in a good way. Players would stop untying their skates and listen (usually with their jaws dropped) whenever Bryzgalov would hold court. "What did he say today?" was usually the first post-scrum question whispered from teammates to this reporter. That is a distraction.

All of us fans know this. I doubt Homer does

Also, a goalie that doesn't duck pucks would be preferable.

Even "Shortside" doesn't do this.....

I had to run outside for the final two minutes. That was the scariest thing ever.

Good effort by the Leafs.......Boston tried making a comeback but stepping on their dicks most of the night made it difficult.

I know what you felt like. 2009 Stanley Cup 7th game, one goal lead 6 seconds to go face off in the Penguin zone. It doesn't get much more dramatic.

And congrats to the Kings....

I think a bigger issue is that the forwards consist of Giroux, Simmonds and a bunch of no talent goons that belong in the minors with the entire defense save Timmonen. This is the NY Jets of the NHL.

Well Dion and Gunnarson sure did their parts to make sure they still had a chance.

Did they never teach them how to clear the puck?

It's not a job, it's an adventure.

Go read comment #94 from yesterday's Miss Pinch thread. Apparently she's Denny Potvin, Larry Robinson, and Bobby Orr all rolled into one. :-)

The Philly media. Making it easier on the other 29 teams fan bases for the last few decades.

Can't wait til it's Giroux's turn to be run out of town by the media. You think they go personal stuff like the drinking thing or professional stuff like the sleeping. Or a whole new category.

Carlyle ducked out with 30 seconds left. Credit to the Leafs they hung in.
