09:31 AM ET 05.11 | Astros manager Bo Porter issued a public apology to umpire Fieldin Culbreth and his crew for setting in motion the controversy that led to a two-game suspension and a fine for Culbreth. Just as Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia argued Thursday night in the top of the seventh inning, Major League Baseball acknowledged Friday that Porter should not have been allowed to pull Wesley Wright before the reliever faced at least one batter. "I feel bad that I put them in that position where they felt, "Maybe Bo is right," Porter said. "Then a decision was made that ended up being not the right decision." Culbreth, the crew chief, gathered his umpires and made an erroneous call, prompting the Angels to play the final two innings under protest. The protest became moot after the Angels rallied to win 6-5. Nonetheless, MLB fined and suspended Culbreth two games. The rest of the crew -- Brian O'Nora, Bill Welke and Adrian Johnson -- also were fined.

Umpires facing consequences for bad calls. How novel.

QUOTE(#2):

Umps should know the rules.I'm tired of many of baseball's umpires. They want to be part of the show, baiting players and acting high and mighty. Learn the rules, boys. And I'm tired of baseball not using instant replay. Hell, you can get a call right in a matter of seconds...no more than one minute. Use the technology available. Perhaps not for balls and strikes, but everything else, hell yes.

Even when they use replay, they still blow calls.

But but, the umpire angel Hernandez was able to weasel out without a problem :-) :-) :-) hurting the A's was not fun, at all !!!?

I think the league should suspend selig for not implemented the right calls in the Indians/A's game,, I mean wrong call but allowed to benefit the Indians?

perhaps the umpires crew needs a extra long range lent glasses,, should that help at all??!

May 11, 2013  10:55 AM ET

sometimes are really bad, but the umpires shouldn't make things worse, worse to worse comes, those type of calls in a tie game could kill any agressive momentum in any team(A's),,,,,

May 11, 2013  10:58 AM ET

the cubs would benefit from those wrong calls/the marlins/the triple A teams would like to get some wrong calls as well, but the major league umps crew shouldn't keep making mistakes like this,, and where is legibility in this matter?should teams just roll over and take any wrong calls again and again??

May 11, 2013  11:05 AM ET

there is very little room for error, plus the world has well advanced technology, and soon very soon no umpires or any other referee's would be needed,,,,

the umps had left little to show for, i mean keep making mistakes and get away with is not fun at all,if umps knew they did the wrong call in the indians A's? then why they didn't resume the game in the right way??by living the game the way ended proves the league is not taking any responsability for the umps crew mistakes,,,

I sure hope this isn't a contract year for those guys.

About time they started to crack down on the umps.

May 11, 2013  11:54 AM ET

The best umpires are the ones who are there but are not seen. When ask who umpired, the answer is gee I don't remember. They are paid to do what they do. They should know the rules.

Porter shouldn't apologize for a damn thing.

You ain't cheating, you ain't trying.

Bo says, "I'm sorry you stupid umpires can't do your mfing jobs."

May 12, 2013  10:36 AM ET

Bo should also apologize to the Astros fans and MLB for not knowing the rules of the game. Management won't suspend Bo, but at the end of the season they may not forget and fire him for lack of knowledge of the rules of the game.

Now MLB, make sure these umpires know what they will received for revenge? Also, lets start watching these umpires' strike zone to all players?
