06:39 PM ET 05.11 | It was an innocent question for Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett: Do you know who the play caller will be? "We haven't made a decision on that," Garrett said Saturday afternoon in-between practices of the rookie minicamp.

I'll go do something else more interesting now than wait on this answer.

On the other hand, torturing the media is always fun.

I think we all know that Jerruh Jones will be the play caller. Why not? He does everything else that he's not qualified to do with that team, why wouldn't he call the plays as well?

On a related note, I think that "We don't know, yet" will be a frequent reply coming from Cowboys' "management" for just about anything!
See? Who are you going to draft? Don't know.
When will you guys win another playoff game? Don't know.
Does anyone here have any ability at all? Don't know.
Why has this franchise stagnated for the past 15 years? Don't know.
Any contingency plans if the $100 Million QB is injured? Don't know.
Are you guys utilizing a 3-4 or 4-3? Don't know.
When will the Cowboys get a good safety? Don't know.
Why have the Giants, Eagles, and Redskins improved while the Cowboys have done very little to address troubled spots on the team? Don't know.
Hey, JJ, you seem to have weaknesses at OT, DT, S, C and RB (among others), what are your plans to improve those positions? Don't know.
Hey, JJ, what DO you know? Well, we've increased the value of the franchise, and despite wildly overpriced tickets to this huge stadium, which seems to provide an advantage to the VISITING team, we KNOW that NO Super Bowl appearance should be hoped for until I sell the team. THAT I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only took 4 post for someone to say it. Over and under was 3.

Steve - I'm just stating the obvious truth. What could I do?

Let me take a wild guess here: the offensive coordinator?

Not this year.

Is that Bill Callahan, or a photo op for the next installment of "Grumpy Old Men"?

Bill Callahan? Doubtful.

I think he'll focus almost strictly on the offensive line, since it's such an area of need and it's his area of expertise anyway.

Tony Romo will call the plays. At least he will be the one calling the play that they actually run, by ditching the one from the sideline with his "kill, kill, kill" thing, then throwing to Witten or Dez or occasionally someone else. And hopefully not too many to the other team in critical, or even non-critical, situations. Regardless, he'll be "calling" the majority of the plays they actually wind up running. You can take that to the bank.

Garrett will call the plays. Since his job is on the line this season, he will want as much control as he can get. It's put up or shut up time for Garrett, Romo and this Cowboys team.

That is what I see. Dress it any way they want, come game time it will be Garrett, in the press it will be sold as a consensus choice.

yea, uhhhh....Jerry JUST took the play calling job away from Garrett after the season. Why would he give it right back to him?

May 12, 2013  09:48 AM ET

Someone should ask him; " Is it true the Cowboys are going to hire a GM ? ".

So that was Jerry wearing the old leather helmet, shuttling in the plays.

Because he handed it off to nobody. It will be Garrett that chooses the play list for game days, down and distance choices and all of that, and he will be very very nearby. I could be wrong, but it will be his input that drives the train IMO.

i understand that he hasn't given the job to anyone else, but he took the play calling from him because he was failing at it. He gives Romo too many chances to make the mistakes he is prone to make by calling pass plays 70% of the time. They should take a look at the way Harbaugh managed Alex Smith for a season and a half. 25-27 passes a game would make Romo a much better QB. Garrett doesn't think so though, being a former QB himself.

Never underestimate JJ's ability to screw it up.

May 13, 2013  10:39 AM ET

likely garrett.... but really it won't matter who does this. they have nobody on the coaching staff that is capable of effectively doing this so regardless of who calls the plays, it won't be season changing. and this is garrett's year to get over the hump into playing in january or it will be his last season. i'm betting it's his last year w/ dallas.
