03:51 PM ET 05.13 | For the second year in a row, the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year was left off the All-Defensive First Team. In 2013, that would be Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol, who made the second team list selected by NBA coaches after earning the league's top honor for defense. While media members vote on the player of the year awards, it is still a wonder why Gasol was last of 11 first- and second-team players in total points for the defensive honor after receiving such acclaim from the media. Tony Allen led all players with 53 points, and he was joined on the first team by LeBron James, Chris Paul, Serge Ibaka, Joakim Noah and Tyson Chandler. The second team included Gasol, Paul George, Avery Bradley, Mike Conley and Tim Duncan.

This is payback for Lebron when he was crying about not getting the individual award. They should have taken the votes from this all NBA defensive team award. I thought that Tony Allen deserved the defensive player award more then Marc Gasol...

So the coaches are giving payback to Lebron for the media who voted Gasol, defensive player of year? No way that happened.

Could have happened. Sounds like the coaches are saying that Marc wasn't deserving of the defensive of the year award by putting him on the 2nd team. Like I said, I thought Tony Allen was more deserving than Marc.

Gasol didn't deserve the DPOY award.

Maybe he didn't deserve the DPOY award, but he definitely deserved to be on the first team over Tyson Chandler this year.

Marc plays incredible team defense. He is not necessarily a one on one defender unless it is a big, but he covers the pick n roll very well when covering a smaller guy. Allen is great at individual but he seldom takes charges like Gasol does.

CP grabs arms for steals and never gets called for foul so I discount him completely. Tyson has been a no-show for last 2 months defensively. Ibaka is showing that he can even cover zbo or gasol. And Tyson cant even cover hibbert.
