Rockets decline team option on Francisco Garcia

04:06 PM ET 05.13 | The Houston Rockets will not exercise their team option on forward Francisco Garcia's contract, making the veteran an unrestricted free agent this summer. Acquired from the Sacramento Kings in a midseason trade, Garcia played well in a minor role for Houston down the stretch and during the postseason. Though the Rockets have substantial cap space this summer, Garcia likely would have been a poor value at the $6.2 million his 2013-14 team option called for, so the team will presumably try to bring him back at a lesser cost. He's already said that he's interested in a return to the franchise at a lower salary if the team is interested. In 58 games this season between Sacramento and Houston, Garcia averaged 5.5 points per game and hit 37 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.

Don't feel bad about it. The Rockets are clearing out cap room to make a splash in the free agent market. It's just business.

Makes sense why it took him 5+ years to play better and only in the playoffs to show it off. He's a free agent.

woow decent player at 2-3 mil maybe. At 6.3M, that's too expensive for a one-dimensional role player.
