05:32 PM ET 05.13 | Earning the respect of the Chargers' veterans is important to him. The day he can show them what he is all about, he says, is the day those concerns begin to go away. His confidence comes from preparation. "I always stood by a quote that says hard work will beat talent when talent doesn't work hard," Te'o said recently. "I've never wanted to be that guy who didn't work hard.

"I always stood by a quote that says hard work will beat talent when talent doesn't work hard. I've never wanted to be that guy who didn't work hard. And that goes both for football and for relationships I've had with dead, imaginary girlfriends."

Actually, it's an imaginary dead girl firend, not vice versa. That's just silly.

He's got his work cut out for him!!!

After the first few games of the season, this guy will have proven himself as an outstanding linebacker. Sure the jokes will be there, but make no mistake; this guy is here to stay and will make a mark on the NFL.

He will be a punchline for the rest of his career, the rest of his life. His dead, imaginary girlfriend has better odds at making an impact in the NFL -- just look at Jessicankles -- than Te'O.
