07:00 AM ET 05.14 | Well, now, this isn't going to look very good on a young man's resume. Former Chicago Bears first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi was a no-show at Halas Hall on Monday when the team took the field for the first organized team activity of the offseason, according to a source familiar with the situation. He was the only one eligible to attend who did not, according to a source. ... Entering his third NFL season, Carimi faces an uphill battle to earn a roster spot after the Bears drafted guard Kyle Long in the first round (No. 20) and signed veteran guard Matt Slauson in free agency. Also in the mix are second-year guard James Brown and veteran guard/center Edwin Williams.

But isn't holding out what all the elite players do?

He wants to be an elite player so he thought if he acted like one the rest would take care of itself. Now we understand why he's not an elite player.

Like my old Supervisor used to say... "Son..... You're on a slow road to the house."

And on the fast track.. Outta here.

How fitting... he's been kind of a no-show on the field the past couple of years.

Gabe, this is reality. Time to buckle up and go earn that paycheck, son.

What is this fool thinking?

May 14, 2013  09:13 AM ET

He does not have to be there.

He told them weeks ago he would not be there.

He maintains it is better for him to work out where he has been all winter.

His choice, his career, and he could be right on this.

A voice of reason. Thank you for not piling on.

You're funny! Very funny! Gabe Carimi ... elite. I can't stop laughing!

The guy needs to get healthy and he can get in a lot more PT time on his own. Standing around in a circle listening to the coach speak is not what he needs right now, it could be more damaging than helpful. That O in OTA means optional. If they don't want him and he turns up healthy someday there will be plenty of teams that will take him.

He had an interview at a car wash that is opening up in his neighborhood and didn't want to miss out, just in case.

Ah he may be thinking, hey I could get shot on the way to the stadium. Better stay safe, stay home.

I agree with you in theory, except he's BARELY on the team to begin with. They wanted to cut him last year because he was SO AWFUL but they didn't want to cut him because he was a first round pick so they just benched him. This is bordering on career suicide. Whomever is giving him advice is doing him a HUGE disservice.

Carimi could be right, but Fifty is definitely right.

Sure, some good points, he does need to finally be healthy.

But how about showing up to learn the new offense, from the new coaching staff.
Learning the playbook, being able to ask questions, learn new terminology, understand what the coaches want and why.

These thing seem very important.

At least to me they do.

And he is missing out on this.

The "O" in OTA means "Organized". I'm confused. I read that the Bears have OTAs on the following dates: May 22-24, May 29-31, June 4-7. None of which Carimi could've missed since they are yet to come.

The Bears entire offensive line has been a no-show.
