If Celtics rebuild, Paul Pierce will find a new team in 2013

08:46 PM ET 05.14 | The Boston Celtics are facing a period of transition as there remain massive question marks about the future of Kevin Garnett, Doc Rivers and Paul Pierce with the franchise. While Garnett may come back, the belief among those close to Paul Pierce is that the Celtics legend will not be back in 2013 and will either retire or play elsewhere. CSNNE sideline reporter Greg Dickerson, a man who proclaims to be close to Pierce and familiar with the company he keeps, says the indication is that Pierce will end his career with another team. While he'd love to finish his career with the team he's become legend with, the Celtics may opt to rebuild the team this offseason and that's something that would drive Pierce away from the only NBA home he's ever known.

That's an easy decision to cut Pierce. They save $10M, plus that also probably motivates KG to retire, which is another $12M off the books. The only downside is that they lose 2 legendary assets to nothing more than cap space, in a year with weak free agency and a weaker draft.

I still think KG has 1 year left in him, Paul 2.

It's probably the best decision, not the nicest to cut him. I just don't get why Ainge don't try to trade PP at least. When they buy him out he'll sign with GSW and what a pick up that would be.

He still averaged 18 ppg - 5 apg - 5 rbg this season. He'll be of value for any competing team.

It's going to be interesting what will happen. Though all signs point to him leaving one way or another. Either way it will be a sad feeling for me, sort of like when The Chief left Boston...

Since Rondo went down Pierce averaged 18pts/7reb/6asst, only other player in the NBA to do so way LeBron James.

If you can't trade them this summer than mine as well let them finish their career in Boston. What's 1 more year? Let them come off the bench or limit their minutes. They are still better then 50% of players in the NBA.

I will laugh my testes off if he goes to Miami.

Both have gas in the tank for sure but in supporting roles, not primary ones and not at the current rate of pay they are getting for sure!

Boston needs to rebuild and do it around Rondo and their young talent.

Garnett is still an asset on both ends, Pierce has more bad games than good ones now, he is no longer able to play long minutes and is just slow.
