06:38 PM ET 05.15 | Rutgers has hired Julie Hermann as its next athletic director, making her one of only three female AD's at major conference football schools.

Rutgers, looking for stability after Tim Pernetti resigned amidst the Mike Rice player abuse scandal, chose someone who has never been in charge of a football program. Hermann, formerly the volleyball coach at Tennessee, proved her worth at Louisville, where she managed 20 of the school's 23 sports. She was recently president of the National Association of Collegiate Women's Athletics Administrators.

The Scarlet Knights chose Hermann over Sean Frazier, Wisconsin's deputy athletic director. She'll be in charge as Rutgers transitions from the former Big East into the Big Ten.
