07:09 AM ET 05.16 | Not only could the Red Sox use a hot streak from Jacoby Ellsbury, but he could, too. [Ellsbury], who becomes a free agent at the end of the season, is having a disappointing year at .256/.321/.363 with one home run and 13 RBIs. "He just doesn't look nearly as comfortable at the plate, he's not being as efficient at the plate as he's been in the past," [Buster Olney] said. ... "And it's having a huge impact, without a doubt, on the perception of him as a player. ... [He] could theoretically be a $100 million player. But if he continues on this same trajectory for the entire year, it's going to be a crusher for him in terms of how much money you would lose, to the point that you'd almost think that he'd want a mulligan."

Weren't we recently talking about this guy, and, whether the Cubs would make a run at him as a free agent or not, just within the last week or so? He keeps this up, he may have to pay the Cubs to give him a job.

Someone will overpay for him. Boras knows it. Red Sox know it too. It's his last year in Boston.

The Cubs are number guys.... if his lifetime average is around .290 and he's batting .256 this year; that just means the laws of averages says he's going to hit something like .325 next season!!! Give him $10 million!!!!

This season is crushing his free agent value? What about every injury-plagued season he's had?

If Shane Victorino got $13M, Ellsbury will be just fine.

Will be interesting. He turns 30 this September. Just how many years does he ask for?

I don't remember Victorino being as 'fragile' as Ellsbury..............'Fragile' is GOOD........if you're a Yes album.

How true. They also tried to give the same to Mike Napoli, and best of all Jonny Gomes: two years 10 million.

Ellsbury is a good player, worth 48 million/4 yrs. He will undoubtedly get millions more.

Just think what Mickey Mantle would have gotten. Oy vey iz mir!

He's been pretty fragile this year. Already missed a number of game with a bad back.

May 16, 2013  09:24 AM ET

Angels will pay him alot for what he's done in the past, just ask AP/JH

May 16, 2013  09:26 AM ET

He's also hurting my fantasy team.

May 16, 2013  10:08 AM ET

He's got to just go out and play the game. Forget about contracts. He's got to just go out and play the game he's always played and done well with.

QUOTE(#14):

Well if you got him expecting anything beyond SB and runs you were reaching. As it is, even with his slow start he has 12 SB and 23 runs, not bad numbers.

Those are the main reasons I got him, but I thought I'd get a little higher BA, which I still might.

Is Olney on drugs? Ellsbury a $100 million dollar player? No way.

hmmmmm .... Jewish phrasing of Grermanic origin .... a bit left of center ... "Karl! ... Karl is that you? ... Karl Marx? ... "

Exactly. He's had one very good season and the rest so-so or injury plagued.
