Touted freshman QB arrives at Auburn

07:13 AM ET 05.16 | Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee may be ready to run first and pass later, but the quarterback race at Auburn will heat up this summer nonetheless. Several newcomers arrived on Auburn's campus Tuesday, two days before the start of summer classes. Among them is quarterback Jeremy Johnson of Carver-Montgomery. Johnson, the state of Alabama's Mr. Football last season, will compete against four others -- Kiehl Frazier and Jonathan Wallace, and newcomers Nick Marshall and Jason Smith. The hurry-up, no-huddle is designed to fit a player's strengths, freshman or not. That means fresh-faced newcomers like Johnson and Smith will be on equal footing with the other quarterbacks fighting for the starting job in August.

I like the "two days before the start of summer classes". That's funny.

Not sure I catch your drift. A lot of players report to school in the summer to work out with their teams. This kid went to high school where I live (Montgomery) and he's going to be a good one. Will challenge immediately for the starting job.

I thought Lil Nicky declared the "hurry-up, no-huddle" offense illegal cuz it was unsafe?

As if they are REALLY going to set foot in a real classroom.

Although everyone in college football SHOULD listen to and agree with Coach Saint Saban, they don't always do what the ought to so.

But, he King of Alabama so he should make a edict to prevent Auburn from using it.

yeah, unsafe to his record.

I'm sure everyone is stoked to have Nick Marshall join the team. Just be sure to lock up your valuables. The barn is pickin up the scraps lol.

Same thing that's done at every other school.

Yeah, if you consider a kid with Marshall athletic abilities "scraps" we'll let him try out. He'll have just this year to use his QB talents, assuming he can win the job. It'll be JJ's in 2014.

Oh he is talented no doubt about it. I meant scraps in the sense of someone who gets kicked off another team for stealing from his own teammates.

Agreed. At least it is at BCS universities. And that is the hypocrisy of it: that they still pay lip service to the notion that these kids are going to class.

And for the record I'm all for second chances we could've used nick as a db and I was disappointed that his actions got him kicked off the team. He is talented and was a good hs qb so I'm sure he'll do fine at the barn. Wasn't really trying to take a shot at the barn just a little smack talk is all.
