Murky future for Torres in San Jose

07:16 AM ET 05.17 | For Raffi Torres, it may have been a reputation that preceded him. His suspension for the rest of the Sharks' playoff series against the Los Angeles Kings was slightly stunning. Two games seemed the most lenient outcome and four games the most severe possibility, but this could be six. Yet when you consider Torres' track record of previous violations and suspensions, he is in no position to argue. Neither are the Sharks. They signed him knowing this could happen. And now, the stark truth is that Torres may not ever pull on a San Jose Sharks sweater again. If Los Angeles wins the series, Torres will play no more this season. And on July 1, he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

And the Sharks (as we all knew they would) swim off into that good night.

Yep, faded later than we thought, but that's because the short season screwed up their timing

Actually it's because they played the Canucks in the first round. Whoever won that was assured of vanishing this round.

Usually, you look for the Battle of the Titans in the playoffs. But, a Sharks - Canucks series ain't it. Torres was the only testicular fortitude they had going. Without him, they're their usual emasculated selves.

A smothering the puck penalty with 2 minutes to go to give the Kings a two-man advantage seems absolutely atrocious. I didn't see the play, but I'd be livid if I were a Sharks fan.

May 17, 2013  09:08 AM ET

Torres should be tossed from the league. He's a no talent, cheap shot artist goon.

May 17, 2013  09:18 AM ET

Looks like it'll end up being only a 3 game suspension.

I'm not a fan of Raffi, but the penalty was wrong and the suspension is absurd. He hit the guy's shoulder.

You sound surprised. Did you expect Shanahan or the NHL Department of Player Safety to get THIS or ANY other call right? They're The Theatre of the Absurd.

I don't like Torres ... I think he's a goon...but this suspension was not even close to being on point.
this was not goonage...

I was going to say similar.

Worse has happened recently with SFA in the way of punishment.

Raffi got bolloxed....

Perhaps if his parents had called him Steve things would be different.

"Raffi" is Arabic for "holding high".

May 17, 2013  10:37 AM ET

He really lets his teams down in the playoffs for sure.

It's almost become a rite of spring. April showers bring May flowers........and an early exit from the playoffs for the Sharks.

What the suspension is absurd because he missed? It's the intent and his history. It was pretty obvious he was trying to pull the same crap as last year when he laid out Hossa and took away one of the best players in the league. You don't come up from behind full speed headhunting on a defenseless player.

There is a right way to play physical and get your licks in, this guy obviously has no clue how to do that without it being a cheapshot.

Whiner.

Raffi isn't going anywhere. More then a few teams will be offering him a contract this summer.
