11:29 AM ET 05.17 | The Atlanta Hawks have not yet fired head coach Larry Drew, but he certainly cannot be very comfortable with the team. Atlanta has been interviewing a number of potential head coaching candidates despite no vacancy and they have added another name to the discussions. According to reports, the Hawks have reached out to CSKA Moscow head coach Ettore Messina. If the Hawks choose Messina, he would become the first European-born head coach. Messina was a consultant on Mike Brown's staff with the Los Angeles Lakers, but he decided to leave for Europe before the start of the season.

I'm not exactly sure how/why Ferry wants to get a HC BEFORE assembling a roster. It is evident from the league that you can only build a system around the players you got, and not vice versa (for the MOST part). I actually agree that Drew's gotta go if Hawks want to get to the next level. Nothing against Drew, but he kept the team as-is, as he got it, and didn't let them slide.

I wanna see if Hawks can make a seriously play for Howard and/or Paul, regardless of the outcome. Make a strong pitch, and let it play out. Smith's gotta go! We REALLY need a true center, move Al to PF, and get a starting PG please (sorry Teague, you can be an awesome 6th man, but not starting quality PG).

^If you have a good head coach, it can help you land free agents. When you only have three players under contract, you can build a team to the system the coach wants.

If you want the Hawks to make a serious play for Howard, you need an established head coach in place.

I'm hopeful the Hawks will break their trend of hiring assistants as head coaches and hire a proven head coach. They may try to sign and trade Smith, since the Hawks can give him more money than any other team signing him. Teague is fine at PG, in my opinion. They NEED a true shooting guard (I think John Jenkins could do well if given a proper chance.), and center.

The Hawks should be Seattle's next target. Atlanta's fair weather fans don't deserve an NBA team.

I guess that explains why those assume fans in Seattle lost the Sonics.
