Washington State cancels Halloween classes prior to night game

01:55 PM ET 05.17 | In what might be the most WSU thing in the history of WSU things, President Elson Floyd announced Thursday that the school will cancel classes on the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 31, in advance of that night's televised football game against Arizona State. Additionally, he said that attendance at morning classes will be at the discretion of faculty. A less cynical person would note that Pullman more or less has to change everything to accommodate the influx of people into the city when there is a football game. Floyd said this is an "opportunity to share the beauty of our unique Pullman campus before a national television audience in a broadcast carried by one of the ESPN family of networks," and that this is "part of our efforts to ensure the safety and ease of travel throughout campus for faculty, staff, students and fans."

I'd be surprised if there weren't a lot of pirates in the crowd.

Apparently, the only WUS at WSU is the pres... But, you gotta like his name, Elson Floyd. Great name for a university pres.

I NEvER cut class, did a road trip, got hammered, or chased woman in college--and now own the world!!!

The point is, the school didn't make it easy to screw off. We even had classes scheduled on football Saturdays.

skipping class vs. canceling because of a football game??????I am not there so I don't know the logistics but it seems to send a bad message.

Schools cancel classes for a variety of reasons. WSU was excited about a Thursday Night game on National TV and wanted to have a good crowd. Could be good PR for the school to get other kids to go there.

As something that happens regularly (say once every 2-3 months)....I would agree is a bad thing and a bad message. But once in a blue moon (or even once a year)....meh.

I understand....my point is that this is an exception to the rule and could be a good thing for the school.

OK, I'm with you if it's an exception!
I just hate to see schools selling out to the SEC model=Football over everything else!
