06:28 PM ET 05.20 | The Miami Dolphins begin their first session of OTAs on Tuesday, but they may have to do so without Reshad Jones. The safety is not planning to report for workouts unless the team begins negotiations for a new contract, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. The 25-year-old Jones started 16 games last season and produced career-highs in nearly every major category. He finished the season with 94 total tackles, nine pass deflections and four interceptions. Jones is entering the final year of his rookie contract, but would apparently prefer an extension over hitting the free agent market.

Usually I hate seeing players hold out but in the NFL where contracts are not guaranteed, how can I be mad. Players are easily cut when the team feels they are not worth their contract terms so why not the players do the same? Average NFL life is 3/4yrs. At 30, you are considered old. So at 25, he has 5 more yrs before he is too old for a contract. He probably won't see his next contract full-fulled by the time he is 30.

The NFL is one seriously screwed up league when it comes to contracting!
