Steelers open OTAs with plenty of questions

07:06 AM ET 05.21 | If Pittsburgh is going to prove its doubters wrong in September, as Mike Tomlin predicts, the work begins this week. The Steelers begin the first day of 13 offseason practice days -- 10 OTAs and three minicamp sessions -- Tuesday, and Tomlin will begin working through an extended check list of concerns, worries and question marks. Among them: LaMarr Woodley's weight. Troy Polamalu's overall health. Ben Roethlisberger's receivers. Dick LeBeau's always-aging defense. The relatively young offensive line. The who's-on-first situation at running back. The who's-going-to-replace James Harrison scenario at outside linebacker. And there's this: For the first time since Tomlin took over as coach in 2007, the Steelers aren't considered to be one of the AFC's elite teams or an AFC North frontrunner.

Go Steelers!

Last year I picked the Redskins to win the NFC East.

This year I'm picking the Steelers to win the AFC North. Baltimore is about to discover that it's not easy to repeat, and Cincy isn't there yet. The other team isn't worthy of consideration.

Always love the talk about how old they are. Last season they were #1 in overall yds,/gm #1 in pass yd/gm, #2 in rush yd/gm, #6 in pts/game

Nobody remembers beating Baltimore on the road with Charlie Batch at QB. Of course the Steelers are an elite team, they just don't have a QB that all the morons in the media drool over.

The Steelers may have a down year (stress added to the word "may"). Every organization does. What separates the Steelers from most other teams is that if they are down, they won't be down long.

Exactly.

The Squealers will be just fine.

Every year there are questions about the Steelers, & every year they're a contender.

Same fecal matter, different year. Go Steelers!

The Steelers may indeed be just fine.

But this year, Mike Tomlin needs to show that he can make a team better than the sum of it's parts.

They weren't a contender last year. The months of November and December were pathetic. Any season they lose to the Browns is a down one.....

They are a team that you should never underestimate. They have proven that for decades.

They aren't my favorite team, but they sure have my respect.

Now that the players from the Bill Cowher era are phasing out, I am interested in seeing how well Tomlin does with his own crop of players.

That team not worthy of consideration beat the Steelers last year due to them not believing in backup QB's and almost beat them with their 3rd sting QB.
