Irish status unclear for blue-chipper Vanderdoes

07:18 AM ET 05.21 | What a difference a few weeks make in the case of defensive lineman Eddie Vanderdoes. Less than a month before he was to start his Notre Dame football career with summer school and informal workouts, [Vanderdoes] and his future morphed into a runaway rumor Monday. And seemingly the only two people not talking about it in the college football cyber-world were the two who could bring actual substance to the discussion -- Irish fourth-year head coach Brian Kelly and Vanderdoes himself. ... Should Vanderdoes defect -- and UCLA is the reported targeted alternative -- it would take away what figures to be a cornerstone on the defensive line in 2014.

As an ND fan I would hate to lose him but if this "rumor" is as valid as the one where Manti Te'o created the dead girlfriend hoax to help him win the Heisman Trophy the kid is not going anywhere...

Isn't it a little late to be having second thoughts after signing your L-O-C?

May 21, 2013  09:27 AM ET

I was shocked he didn't sign on to Westwood initially. Maybe he is headed there after all.

Hey, ICE. Good to see you online. What's the name of that Cali JUCO which is a perfunctory factory for supplying D-1 with impact players?

Should have gone to Alabama.

As beautiful a state as Alabama is (and I mean that sincerely having travelled there on occasion) it seems like the young lad may be rethinking leaving the west coast and all that it entails...

No offense to Notre Dame, but why is it 2 of these top recruits seem to get there and decide they want to leave? (I think there have been more, can't remember names - a WR?, not sure).

Vanderdoes and Kiel.

As for Manti Teo, I still don't think he has told the truth about what was going on there.

I'm not originally from Alabama. It does have some nice scenery and it has a wide range of scenery since it has mountainous/hill type terrain in the North, and flatter toward the South and some nice beaches in the Fort Morgan area. Lots of trees in all areas.

The heat sucks, though.

As well as the number and variety of biting insects from the coast up into the savanna region.

All schools lose recruits Joe. With Kiel he stayed for a year and then left (probably because of projected lack of playing time). Having said that South Bend is not exactly the "jewel" of the midwest. There isn't much there except the campus so if you are looking for major distractions outside of your studies and your sport the pickings are slim. As far as Te'o goes... who knows...? You may be right that there is more to the story but until it is proven otherwise I will believe what has been confirmed. He was a naive kid who was duped by a hoax and made a bad decision by trying to lie his way out of it...

Better throw in a extra car and offer more money.

There are a number of them out here Tinny. A few up north, and a handful in the south. Always seem to be plenty of kids with D-1 talent who need some assistance in one area or another.
