07:20 AM ET 05.21 | St. Louis' prospects will have a new home next season, in Chicago, a development that has some in Peoria singing the blues. In early April, the Blues announced that they had sold the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League to the Vancouver Canucks, after which the Blues unveiled a three-year agreement with the independently owned Chicago Wolves. The move has been met with excitement among Blues and Wolves officials. But that's not the case in Peoria, Ill., because the Canucks said they will move the team. ... "I do feel bad for fans of the Peoria Rivermen," Blues owner Tom Stillman said in his first public comments since the swap. ... "At the same time, and the fact is, we weren't getting overwhelming support in the Peoria market."

The sad thing is that Peoria's has a minor league hockey team for 30 years. It looks like they're trying to "save" the team by putting a team in the Southern Professional Hockey League, which is a single-A league. Sadly, it's pretty much a glorified beer league. At least there's supposed to be a new franchise near them in Bloomington. Otherwise, the closest franchise is down the river just south of Memphis.

I guess they won't 'play in Peoria'

that's a shame....do these things have to be approved by Dwarfus Horribilius and his minions, or is it purely up to the individual teams?

What's this? Moving a team out of a poor performing area? Where did this innovative thinking come from?

But is the poor performance a chronic thing or just a recent development due to the economic downturn?
