03:11 PM ET 05.21 | The Los Angeles Clippers have finally done what many long suspected they'd do. After losing in the first round of the NBA playoffs for two straight years, the team has announced that head coach Vinny Del Negro has been fired, per a report from Adrian Wojnarowski and Yahoo! Sports. Del Negro took over the Clippers in 2011 after being fired by the Chicago Bulls for essentially the same reasons he was fired in Los Angeles. Despite talented rosters in both Chicago and Los Angeles, Del Negro has failed to pull it all together and put a winning product on the hardwood even though his teams routinely make it to the postseason. Talks of letting Del Negro go have been floating around even before the Clippers lost their playoff series to the Memphis Grizzlies. Stan Van Gundy is a name that has been attached to the Clippers for some time now and it's no secret that he'll be the guy Los Angeles makes a hard move to get this offseason. Los Angeles has the draw to pull in a big name coach and they'll need one to try and erase the lost seasons they've had under Del Negro.

Let the Phil Jackson threads commence.

SVG already clearly stated he's not coaching this season, so not sure why that reference. Maybe PJ can be enticed to get some "revenge"?

would love to see Mario (aka SVG) prowling the sideline again

Serves you right Clips fire hiring this bum in the first place. Hopefully the next team that considers this guy will think twice.

PHIL JACKSON WOULD BE THE PERFECT FIT THE CLIPPERS.

When the time comes he will somehow persuade Lebron James to join this Los Angeles team, play alongside CP3 and Shake-N-Blake.

Time to pack up that 2 line playbook

I'm not sure if he is that bad. Here's a coach that turned 2 franchise around. The Bulls sucked until VDN started coaching them. Same goes for the Clipps. Here's the only coach that has brought the Clippers to the playoffs since I don't know when. I understand the firing but calling him a bum is not right...

Yeah, good points about Vinny. I can't understand the firing, except that it sounds like CP wanted him out, so he's out.

As far a the next coach, not sure they will get anyone that can help them. SVG, Phil J. are out. Many of theavailable coaches are young and inexpeienced, or don't have a successful track record. We'll see.

Is it possible that the clippers, the CLIPPERS, have set the bar a bit high here? The clippers consider 2 seasons which they made the playoffs as 'lost'? Wasnt this the same franchise that hasnt done anything in like forever, not even sniffing the playoffs for years on end?

It's not that complicated people. Vinny may be a decent coach, but it won't do for teams with championship aspirations. For some also-run teams, he might be just fine. CP3 wants to win. And if he's gonna stay in LA and attempt to win, it has to be practical and realistic. VDN is not gonna help him get there. They need PJ or someone of that pedigree.

The Clips were a good regular season team, different game once the post season begins. that translate into "no dunks, no highlight reels, a better focus", something that does not equate into the Clippers style of play.
