Why Vick's still No. 1 (for now)

07:04 AM ET 05.22 | Among the NFL's most interesting storylines this offseason is who Chip Kelly will start with under center in 2013. Michael Vick, of course. The Eagles have paid him $3.5 million. Why else cure Vick's fumbling problem, which has dogged him for a decade? ... Further, Kelly's mere presence has somehow convinced Vick that he has been able to read defenses for a dozen years. This same Vick acknowledged a few years ago that, as a Falcon, he often declined to study video coaches made for him of the opposition. Finally, Matt Barkley's cotton-candy passes, all soft and sweet, are not NFL-ready. And, while Nick Foles might "feel confident with" the zone-read scheme, the key to any option attack is, well, the options. Foles runs a 5.14-second 40-yard dash.

Even having 3 quarterbacks in camp for the Eagles doesn't give them much of an option, does it?

Even if by some miracle this offensive scheme actually works well with Vick's skills, you have to doubt whether he will stay healthy.

Remind me again how many seasons that Vick has played all 16 games ? So your going to bet on a horse that you know almost never even finishes a race, let alone wins the race ? We will just call him Chip "The Gambler" Kelly from now on.......unless he really wants to finish with a top five pick for next year- maybe it is all just "stratigery"

Its May..who cares? They haven't even had a real practice yet with contact...chillax

Yeah, that's a problem no matter what happens. If you design an offense around Vick, he's such a different kind of quarterback that it won't work for either Foles or Barkley. But, for now, Vick is still the best QB in camp, so he has to start.

By the end of the season, Chip Kelly will regret taking this job.

Well that is an easy question: Here is the answer:

$3.5 million signing bonus three months ago and a total of $10 million for this year.

Fannation's Eagles fans read that and sob into their corn flakes.

It's hard to argue with you on that, but you really need new material.

Unfortunately, the Eagles need new material, too.

May 22, 2013  09:51 AM ET

The Eagles are doing the right thing.

They have a new coach and a new offensive system.

By having Vick, Foles and Barkley all competing, it means the winner of the group worked his butt off...

I am obviously more interested in ALL 3 flopping but they will find their QB who fits that system from this competition and if it is Vick, which I think will be...the others need to be ready because it is quite unlikely he makes it through an entire season.

Lots of linebackers out there who want a shot at Convick. Might make them the Humane Society's man of the year.

I am saying this now, I would rather have Tebow as a backup (possible starter) on the roster.

That would be the sequel to throwing the Christians to the Lions. Great theatre, bad football.

Yeah. If he was delusional enough to take the job, it will be a while before the reality sets in.

Did you forget to take your pills this morning?

May 22, 2013  12:19 PM ET

Ummmm..... Cause he's the best QB on the roster ?

May 22, 2013  12:29 PM ET

Vick is still #1 because he's killed more dogs than Foles.

Do you ever have anything meaningful to say, or are you just trying to reaffirm your ignorance about sports and the city of Philadelphia every 5 minutes?
