07:20 AM ET 05.22 | Believe it or not, the college football season is now under 100 days away. [It's] time for our annual Freaks List. We've been doing it for a decade, focusing on the top workout warriors or players who amaze their teammates and coaches with what they can do in the weight room, on the track or in some other "wow" aspect of athleticism. ... 1. Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina, DE: Like just about everything else that Jadeveon Clowney does athletically, his workout numbers are jaw-dropping. ... Clowney was tested by Gamecock coaches the week before South Carolina started spring ball. He vertical jumped 38 inches and clocked a 4.54 40 weighing 274 pounds. A year ago, he ran a 4.58 at 257.

He weighs 274, and can do THAT?

Lord have mercy....you can bet every OL coach on USCe's schedule this year just pegged an azszz-pucker-factor of 12 on a 1-10 scale.

Derrick Henry can vertical leap 39 inches!!! What is up with thses freaks of nature these days?

May 22, 2013  09:40 AM ET

I read the article, and the B1G had three freaks in the top ten, including some guy from Minnesota that I've never heard of at the number two position. It sounds like Clowney is off the charts in a power measurement called Tendo. Unfortunately, not everyone uses or reports those numbers so I think a lot has to do with what the S-I-D's are passing on to the reporters.

Yeah, that Minnesota guy was news to me, but like you said, gotta take some of this stuff coming from SID's with a grain of salt.

In some instances being the most physically gifted guy may not translate into being the best player.

That is NOT the case here. He has absolutely proven that!

Jay Prosch - HAAAAAAAAAAA HA HA HA HA. If he ran a 4.59 40 then why was his carries/yards for the season 12 for 38 for an average of 3.2???

He's a FB, and you know FBs only occasionally get to tote it nowadays. And when they do, it's alot of short yard situations. The article is about non-game athletic stuff like 40 times, verticals, etc so IMO he got included for a relatively good 40 time for a guy that size, along with an impressively low body fat percentage.

We're talking about a team that claimed Jake Holland was running a 4.5 40 before last year. They tend to make those numbers sound better than they are.

As do many SIDs. All those guys are notorious for such shenanigans. The proverbial grain of salt needed to be taken with them is about the size of a Charlie Weis lunchbox.

Mods have lost their friggin minds. There was NOTHING offensive about #8.

Ra'Shede Hageman. Though he was recruited by former Gophers coach, "TimBe," he's a bonafide member of the Killer Gs. Minnie shall rise. The annual meeting of the Gophers and the Badgers should have implications for the div championship. One day, the two teams will open the season playing each other in Frankfurt, showcasing the B1G to all of Europe. It will coincide with the local Applewine Festival and be remembered as one of the greatest parties the city has ever seen.
