Patriots may franchise Moss

Would the Patriots consider using the franchise tag to retain wide receiver Randy Moss? The answer will become known over the next two weeks because today marks the start of the 15-day period in which teams can assign the tag to players. If the Patriots place the non-exclusive franchise tag on Moss, it would strongly increase the likelihood of his return to New England in 2008. Other teams could still sign Moss to an offer sheet, but would have to forfeit two first-round draft choices if the offer isn't matched by the Patriots. Because of that steep price, it is unlikely another team would submit an offer sheet to any franchise player.

Excellent. Now if they can just win 19 in a row, like were suppose to this year, all will be good in the world.

That would be the smart thing to do.

February 7, 2008  06:03 AM ET

They're trolling for draft picks. They'd let him go for two first-round picks.

blut

Somehow I do not see Moss getting traded. They might trade the 7th pick for a later 1st rounder and a 2 or 3rd rounder.

light for now, Four? We will know better once the annual releases happen when teams try to get under the cap.

How can the Pats afford to pay all of these people??

I would too if I were them. They will let enough of the defensive players go to pay for Moss. The tag is good for one year, they really have no choice..That window of opportunity is not very big and the Pats did not dominate anybody from December on..

I called it a month ago.

And bring us Jason Taylor ! He wants to be a PATRIOTS !
Give the man what he wants !

February 7, 2008  07:44 AM ET

I agree. Taylor could be high on thier list.

I wonder if Randy Moss is now looking at his signing with the Patriots like it was a pact with the devil. If he intends to leave, it's looking like it they could make it very difficult for him to do so.
