Nicks' unstated goal in skiping OTAs

06:59 AM ET 05.23 | As if the Giants didn't already have a contract concern in Victor Cruz, they can add fellow wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. [Nicks] sent the team a little message by not showing up for practice Wednesday. Pay day is coming soon for Nicks, too. That was the unstated goal of Nicks' not attending the Giants' organized team activity practice, a team source indicated Wednesday. However, Nicks' agent Peter Schaffer strongly denied that the wide receiver missed the practice because of contractual reasons. Schaffer said only he and Nicks were fully aware of the reason for the player's absence and was unwilling to further discuss. Strictly speaking, Nicks didn't violate any rules. OTAs are, after all, voluntary. However, in the lexicon of NFL, voluntary is a synonym for mandatory.

If the team isn't in sync from day 1, it's harder to make the playoffs. This is not a team that's in sync, and day 1 is already gone.

I bet Crabtree wishes he had not shown up for these voluntary sessions.

Achilles tears are typically a result of not warming up and stretching enough before sprinting or cutting. Also happens to people who are not in the best of condition when they exert themselves.

I remember the Air Force had a lot of those "voluntary" functions. You volunteer or suffer the wrath of the First Shirt.

Last year rookie Darius Flemming hurt himself and missed the whole season from an injury he suffered on the 1st day of rookie mini-camps, while he was stretching.
