Blue Jays' Friday starter is 'top secret'

07:06 AM ET 05.23 | Chad Jenkins may finally have a chance to knock the rust off his pitching arm. The Blue Jays will need a starter Friday against the Baltimore Orioles and manager John Gibbons has a grab-bag full of possibilities. Closest at hand is [Jenkins], who has been sitting in the Jays' bullpen. And "sitting" would be the essential word considering he hasn't pitched since May 12. The other possibilities would be prospect Marcus Stroman, who had a strong 2013 debut for the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Sunday. Then, there is Sean Nolin, viewed by many as being the prospect closest to gaining a spot in the rotation. "We'll see. It's top secret," said Gibbons, playing coy. Stroman threw five shutout innings with four hits, a walk, six and six strikeouts in his first appearance after serving a 50-game suspension for violating the minor league drug program.

Why keep something a secret when nobody gives a $#!+ about it?

What are you talking about? I, for one, am dying to know what mystery pitcher will take the loss for the Blue Jays on Friday night...

Excellent point.

Boy, during the offseason, a Blue Jays thread would attract no less than a half-dozen Jays fans talking about what a genius that Anthropopodopolis guy is and how they couldn't wait to watch the Jays run roughshod over the AL East.

I wonder where those folks are these days. . .

I have to imagine that the fans have conceded the season (at least the realistic ones), but I wonder if the players have come to the realization that it's over.

Clearly, the off season moves haven't panned out as planned. That said, I'd rather have GM (and team) that goes for it. There have been many years in T.O. where the Jays wouldn't take any risks,

Easy choice, use Stroman before the drugs wear off....

I suppose.

Honestly, I'd be frustrated with a GM that was given the resources and proceeds to completely squander them.

Did you know that Buehrle's going to make $37m over the next two years?

Funny how everyone lauded the moves made by the Miami Marlins last winter, only to watch them finish in last place. Then, those same morons applauded the Blue Jays this winter as they acquired several of those same guys who led Miami to last place.

Why are people surprised?

Excellent post.

This is a thought I've had over and over, but you did a great job of getting the point across.

Preseason, I picked the Blue Jays to finish 4th in the AL East. People thought I was a retad. Those same people now realize I'm one of those Rainman retads.
