EA Sports uses Tim Tebow's name in NCAA Football 10

02:24 PM ET 05.23 | Electronic Arts is currently involved with the O'Bannon lawsuit against the NCAA for using players likenesses without compensation. Their defense for their NCAA Football video game series is that they never used a player by name, but that argument took a hit when it was discovered that EA used Tim Tebow by name in a formation package that was exclusive to the Florida Gators' playbook. One of the pillars of the NCAA is amateurism, which would prohibit athletes from being compensated based solely on their status as an athlete. However, the NCAA itself and its partners don't seem to have any issues doing just that themselves.

I'm available for NCAA Tsar - absolute power, utterly irrevocable decisions. Unlike Emmert, I will use this power for good...

Just based on what the excerpt says, is it truly using a players name if it is used as a formation call?

If they call five wide the Guido set, just because I may have used it, are they referencing me or the formation? Would I be entitled to compensation as a result? Should Colt McCoy be entitled to comp every time they reference the pistol

I have some of those games. It's very debatable that their "likenesses" were used in game. Have you guys seen the player in the game? they don't look like any real players.

Although in last years, Arkansas state's coach had those goofy glasses Gus Malzahn wears.

EA Sports and the NCAA are making millions.. maybe billions.. off these guys and don't have to give them anything.. there's enough money to go around here to give some to the players.. too much greed in the NCAA and this proves it

Did they show a picture of Petrino on his hog with a hot blond on back?

Of course the NCAA should pay the players but it won't happen. That's why they "penalize" schools by taking away scholarships when they get caught paying their players or giving them cars and so on. It's simply to maintain status quo of their business model which is not paying labor. What the players should do is a walk out: Imagine if Notre Dame and Alabama refused to play the title game last year? That would bring about change real quick.

What they do is call the players by generic names, but assign them the same basic stats and jersey numbers. They also allow players to upload their edited rosters with the players' names filled in to share with the thousands of users. They know what they're doing. AS far as the package they refer to goes, that was just dumb. They should have known better.
