Rams switch 400-pounder to offense

07:01 AM ET 05.24 | St. Louis has what may be the hardest player to miss this OTA season. The newest Ram, tackle Thomas Brown, is a mountain of a man. Signed as a college free agent out of Mississippi earlier this week, Brown is listed at 6-foot-10 and 385 pounds. But he is even bigger than that. "Actually, we weighed him in at 403," Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. "We had him in for a rookie tryout and he had some issues we had to clear up from a physical standpoint. But we put that behind us. We worked him out on both sides of the ball and decided that his best position would be offensive tackle. He's a defensive lineman trying to convert to offense, but he got through practice."

JaMarcus Russell is with the Rams now? Wait, I better read the story first.

That's just too damn big. Ironic to say that about an NFL player.

He's gonna have a hard time bending his knees every play with that height and weight combo.

I hope he makes it to the first game. Gotta see the face of the guy who lines up across from him on the first snap.

Corner blitz through the gap? He'll straight up eat you.

He won't last an entire season. It's just too much on the heart. Hope this doesnt turn out to be tragic.

Has he ever played basketball ? If not then that says something about his athleticism, if he doesn't have the stamina to play basketball then he'll never make it in the NFL. I hope he makes it to the pre season, kind of fun to see these huge guys walk on the field.

"We had him in for a rookie tryout and he had some issues we had to clear up from a physical standpoint."

They found a tentmaker in Saudi Arabia who said he could make him a pair of pants.

That's just wrong... Well... Happy Friday!

So exactly what physical do you have to pass to play in the NFL? " Say cheese" and your in?

May 24, 2013  09:37 AM ET

That's just too damn big. Has to be a health risk if he ever has to play a full game in a place like Miami in September.

I can't imagine a guy this size would be mobile enough to block an NFL-level defensive end. And it's kind of a giveaway to only put him in on running plays.

Short-yardage blocking fullback.

It's amazing the man could ever get in a three point stance, and then get back up

He's the guy they send in when they need a break but don't want to waste a timeout or a spike down. He falls down and it takes 15 minutes to bring in a front loader to get him off the field.

Put him at wide receiver. Revolutionize the game.

If I am Sam Bradford, I am just a little "uncomfortable" with the thought that an undrafted 400 lb. DT is being tried out as a OT with me as the target area. I am thinking, Hmmmm? Just are thin are we at that position??

Fitting, the guy will eat up the play-clock

After camp he'll be down to about 375. This could be a good thing.Although guard might be a better fit.

Thin? Well, not with Tom Brown out there.

He'd be the widest receiver, that's for sure.
