Notre Dame still owes Weis millions

02:40 PM ET 05.24 | Charlie Weis hasn't coached a Notre Dame football game since 2009. In fact, he's now coaching football games at Kansas. But even though it's been years since Wies was in South Bend, the Irish are still paying their former head coach. He has already received roughly $10 million in buyout payments and is scheduled to receive $8 million more through 2015. Although it's quite silly that Kansas paid a coach who has never had any real success at the college level $2.5 million for a campaign wherein he won only one game, at least Charlie Weis was in Lawrence showing up to work every day and trying as hard as Charlie Weis could to win football games.

That pic must be Charlie beginning to inhale as he approaches the nearest Chinese all-you-can-eat buffet. Everybody grab something that's bolted down, or your azszz is gullet-bound!

Read he was paid more than Kelly last year.

Oh, the price of folly...

Considering Kelly's current employer is paying both Kelly AND Jabba, I'm not surprised.

What a deal, you get hired, then get paid when you're fired? Heck, line that action up a couple of times, and pretty soon "actually working" looks pretty stupid.

Money Well Spent...

To Charlie's Credit - the Seniors on last years team were his {wink wink}...

I am shocked, shocked I tell you that Weiss and Lame Kiffin keep getting hired for millions while accomplishing little as head coaches. Weiss did take the Irish to the cleaners in that contract, leveraging "supposed" interest from an NFL team(s).

May 24, 2013  07:57 PM ET

Worth noting that the AD who negotiated that contract is long gone--at Duke now I believe, where he can do little harm.

May 25, 2013  01:08 AM ET

Brilliant!!

May 25, 2013  04:57 AM ET

They are still paying Willingham too but do you think they regret getting rid of either one of them...? at any cost...?

May 25, 2013  07:29 AM ET

If that Ad is at Duke, David Cutcliffe needs a raise!

What is worse than paying Charlie Weis for NOT coaching? Paying Lane Kiffen FOR coaching.

Ouch...!

A warning for you Domers.... I don't want to hear anything about Ohio State playing weak B1G teams as you guys start loading up ACC creme puffs. You guys may have outwitted yourself with this ACC tie-in. You have to play 5 ACC games which won't help your image and help you be selected for the playoffs. All the while, you can't win the ACC or get to the ACC Championship game. The bottom line is that you have weakened your schedule by this move. And don't think I didn't notice how of the 3 B1G teams you play you dropped Michigan which is the most formidable.

BTW, isn't Ty Willingham still getting checks from ND?

The cost of schematic advantage 2 1/2 million bucks.
