Is Jonathan Toews to blame for Chicago's playoff woes?

02:54 PM ET 05.24 | When it comes down to why they're losing, look no further than captain Jonathan Toews, who is currently playing in a very un-captain-like manner at the moment. What the Red Wings have done is successfully gotten inside the head of the Blackhawks captain and it's showing during games. Toews is not only the captain of the Hawks, he's captain of cool and he's lost his more than once this series. That's the main reason the Blackhawks are in the funk they're in as Toews is setting the wrong tone for the team. Chicago should be cool and collected and they're coming out panicked and gasping for air which is a great way to lose a hockey game and end a season in the playoffs. If Chicago wants to get back into this series, they first need to allow Jonathan Toews to screw his head on right and kick the Red Wings out of the kitchen. Toews cannot be barking at the refs, hacking at the legs of Wings defenders or wasting his time sitting in the penalty box. Once Toews gets it together, the offense will start flowing again and things will get back to normal.

Keep 'em down one more game.

Every year, two or three stars get absolutely po'ed about the reffing - is there a pattern here? No one from the benefactors ever says much at all - 'cept over a beer supposedly.

He may not be the blame... But he's a contributor.

Did you see the one on Mick Jagr?

No, it's Detroit. Captain Serious is still serious, but he's lost the calm.

Exhibit one for why it isn't a good idea to have "the youngest captain in the league" leading your team in the playoffs. No composure. Mind you, the oldest guy on the team isn't helping much either.

Is Jonathan Toews to blame for Chicago's woes? I don't know. And that's as far as I'll go.

CBH are playing arrogant, like 'we're the best team and you're supposed to lose to us cuz we said

May 25, 2013  11:00 AM ET

Skate, and keep skating - it gets ya a lot more of the puck, and then - ya win games. Gotta get to the puck first. Quenneville didn't pick that up, at any point in his career. This team used to do that - in spite of him?

No. He isn't. The Wings are.

They peaked way too early.

I've been saying that for most of the season.

Only two times in recent NHL history has the winner of the President's Trophy gone on to win the Stanley Cup. It was the Wings, but even the Wings have failed to do this more than they have done it.

It has been said that the playoffs are a different style of play than the regular season. Winning the regular season in any sport tends to breed arrogance. It also breeds fustration when things in the playoff don't go your way.

Any team which wins a season and wants to win the playoffs must first demonstrate to itself that it belongs in the playoffs. Despite a solid (shortened) regular season, the Blackhawks look like an also-ran so far in the playoffs. (This is partly because the Wings are peaking at the right time.)
