04:14 PM ET 05.24 | West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck said that the school would like to add a few marquee non-conference contests to future football schedules. Included in the list of desired opponents are Penn State, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Each of those schools has a history with the Mountaineers. West Virginia and Pittsburgh played 104 times between 1895 and 2011 in the Backyard Brawl, one of the best rivalries in college football. But like so many other great things, the dreaded scourge of conference realignment killed it when the 'Eers moved from the Big East to the Big 12. West Virginia and Virginia Tech met 51 times between 1912 and 2005, including every year since 1973. Penn State played West Virginia in each season from 1947 to 1992 and a total of 59 times. While Virginia doesn't have as much familiarity with the Mountaineers, the schools have played 23 times.

Good luck with the schedule. May the desired opponents be open to it.

What about creampuffs? Haven't they learned anything from the big boys?

I would like to see the WVU-Pitt Backyard Brawl start up again...

Based on the number of games played and over a long time the only real rival to WVU on this list is Pitt!

I'd like to see Pitt and WVU continuing playing both in football and basketball even if it means dropping Penn State in football after their two game contract expires.

After getting their nose rubbed in it in a "big boys" conference last year (both Football & basketball) , I don't blame WVa for wanting to play those former Big Least teams.

UVA / West Virginia is not a rivalry. If you play 23 times in +/- 100 years, it does not make a rivalry. If that is the case then FAMU vs Miami is a rivalry.

After the debacle of cancelling a already scheduled for 5 years game in March of 2012 that was to be played in September with FSU who will trust Luck and the eer admin to keeps it word ?
