09:35 AM ET 05.25 | First Jim Boeheim has Carmelo Anthony's back, now it's time for another coach to get a former star's back. Kentucky coach John Calipari was on the Adam "the Bull" & Dustin Fox show on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland, and when asked about Derrick Rose and his injury -- and the heat he took in Chicago for not playing this season, particularly in the playoffs, even after he was cleared by doctors -- you knew he would come to his former player's defense. "An NBA player's body, if he does anything to hurt his own body he's wrecking his own career. You let them listen to their bodies. "The second thing is, I've talked to Chicago Bulls management, I know all those guys' and you know what? They're fine. They didn't want him to go back. As a matter of fact, they wanted to announce he wasn't coming back, but Derrick didn't want to do it because he thought if there is any chance for me to come back... But let me ask you this: At the end of the day after they got going, and they were going to play Miami in the second (round), what good would it have done other than he could have got hurt? Tell me what good it could have done? "So all this stuff, is all fine, all I can tell you is he's a great kid, the Bulls supported him. I support him because I'm not gonna (say), 'Yea, head out there, why doesn't he come back this is crazy the doctor cleared him, okay now he got hurt.' How do you feel now? Knowing him the way he is, knowing he is a great kid and somebody who probably in the worst way wanted to play, but just was so tentative he wasn't right. He didn't trust it yet and you gotta respect that."

They are going to be dangerous next season, especially if they play Jimmy Butler at SG when Deng returns to play SF.

As far as Rose playing....it's his decision and if management was fine with it....it's a non story.

It was a story, cause we're talking about a star who chose his own personal long term interests over his current team and his current teammates. It is now over, cause their season is over. But it will be a story when his career is over as it will be VERY hard for many people to forget and this will dog him forever

Sure it was a story but because so many people without all the facts made it one. I dont know one person inside of the Bulls camp that said Rose should be out there. How do you know it wasnt just as much of the Bulls saying we want to shut you down? But you guys continue to talk and blame a kid that has had no issues with being soft in his past.

If the Bulls camp and Rose are fine with it then no one should be blaming this kid other than those just wanting to hate and pretend they know everything about the matter.

It's a tough one- everybody seems to have an opinion and the opinions are all over the map. Yes it's true that nothing would have been accomplished coming back against Miami, yes it's true that it is his career and he needs to feel comfortable (especially if he were to sustain another serious injury, a real possibility given his game- the Bulls can't look as if they pushed him back too soon).

In the end though it may be the type of thing that, no matter what he does from here on, will be a defining moment for his 'legacy' (his long term reputation as a player). He will never be viewed as having the heart or competitive spirit of a Michael Jordan.

You need to stop drinking the Kool-aid bro!
If Rose didn't want to play, or if Bulls didn't want Rose to play, there was a simple solution. JUST SAY SO!!!!! Just say "I'm not playing this season, period".
But no, the diva wouldn't do that. Because the team, and the news HAD to be about him!!! What ticked off fans (and many players), is this dilly dallying and making it a me-me situation like Mebron.

In reality, the fact that Bulls played SO well without even a average PG shows they don't even need the diva as much as he thinks they do. Even a slightly better PG could have taken them over the cliff.

I USED to like Rose, I don't like him anymore.

yet joakim noah played with injuries. Again Derek Rose is soft, again he was supposed to be out 9-12 months after the injury and again with tears like his it used to be becasue of technology guys would be out til the latter end but now it's the earlier end. Again it was silly for him to go out in warm-up in a uniform and then say oh i'm not ready. He is supposed to be an MVP and i guarntee if James ever suffered an injury like this he would be back sooner rather the later, look the fact of the matter is he should've been back in march plain and simple as the doctors said no damage could be done. I mean look at Kobe Bryant when he had a high ankle sprain, one of the worst type of injuries you can have, was said he'd be out indefinitel and how many games did he miss 2 same as Ron Artest had an injury that said believe would keep him out a month and he missed what 5 games. Rose didn't want to play because he couldn't get out of his own head
