12:50 PM ET 05.25 | In the third round of the NFL Draft in April, the Kansas City Chiefs surprised many of their fans by taking Travis Kelce, a tight end out of Cincinnati. Kelce was viewed by many as a luxury pick for a 2-14 team who already have Tony Moeaki and Anthony Fasano at the position, but new head coach Andy Reid took him anyway. Now, Reid says he believes Kelce compares to Jeremy Shockey, according to the Kansas City Star. "He gives you another offensive threat, somebody that the defense will have to honor by speed and athletic ability," Reid said. "They moved him (in college) all around so he doesn't have to play in line. You can move him out as a wide receiver in that position and he's a legitimate receiver from that spot." Kelce was rated by many draft experts as the third-best prospect at his position behind Notre Dame's Tyler Eifert and Stanford's Zach Ertz. The Bearcats star proved to be a very good blocker, by almost all accounts the best blocking tight end in college football last year that was good enough to be drafted.

Comparing him to Jeremy Shockey? Why? Is he an insufferable jerk?

Are we talking about the young Jeremy Shockey who was a playmaker for the NY Giants or the old Jeremy Shockey who faded into oblivion?

And it was Andy who said " Vince Young is too good to be a back up QB."

Reid also drafted Brent Celek from Cinn. when he was with the Eagles. Hope this guy has better hands than "Whoopsie" Celek.

Does this kid have a bad attitude? If not, he's got a lot of work to do, Andy should know better than that!

Shockey was a cancer in the locker room--- a crybaby who screamed at the coach to get more balls thrown his way--- only to drop them... glad he is no longer around...

You are the new coach of the KC Chiefs, who held the gold standard for tight ends for over a decade in Tony Gonzalez, and you want to compare this kid to a great tight end so you choose Shockey? He even describes TG in his quote, not Shockey.
