01:58 PM ET 05.25 | Bulls forward Luol Deng is not planning to have surgery this offseason to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist. Deng first injured the wrist in the middle of last season, but he elected to play through it and decided to opt-out of surgery in the offseason in order to represent Great Britain in the 2012 London Summer Olympics. Deng then played through this season with the wrist issue to go along with a variety of other ailments, and although he made his second straight All-Star team, he did struggle with his shooting for much of the year. He shot 42.6 percent overall and 32.2 percent from three, with those numbers dipping to 38.1 and 5.6 percent in the postseason before spinal tap complications sidelined him for the Bulls' final seven games.

Now that's dumb. Why not have it now and use the summer to get it healed...

There has to be some benefit we don't know about. At very least, any surgical procedure that they put you under anesthesia for does not guarantee a return ticket.

Everyone would like to avoid surgeries as much s possible, so I can't blame him for taking the conservative approach. Some people just heal, other don't. But since he's an athlete and plays a physical game, I'm not sure he can totally get away from surgery. He may eventually need one.

He's seen how "scary" recovery from surgery can be and wants to avoid it at all cost. Call it the DRose effect.

OR, and bear with me because this requires no Rose hating, maybe Luol is a little medic shy after his botched spinal tap that left him puking up things he ate in the Sudan?

Good point, bad icon.

People said he was dumb and selfish for not having surgery last summer.......and he ended up making the all-star team this year.

And now you.....the resident basketball genius......call him dumb, again.

Has it even remotely occurred to you that maybe the wrist is healed enough on it's own that he doesn't need to have it cut?

Well......has it???

This is.....unfortunately.....very true, indeed.
