02:11 PM ET 05.25 | Former Denver Broncos offensive linemen Tom Nalen admitted to trying to injure defensive lineman Igor Olshansky in a game against the San Diego Chargers in 2006, according to Yahoo! Sports. Nalen is a player who didn't say much throughout his NFL career aside from the occasional "no comment," but now that he's retired, all bets are off. Nalen was being introduced as the next member of the Bronco's Ring of Fame, and among the topics covered over his 30 minutes or so of talking, Nalen said that he intentionally tried to injure Olshansky during a game against the Chargers. "I wanted to blow his knee out on that play because of what happened the play before," Nalen said, "But that, you know, is that dirty? I don't know." Nalen prefaced that statement by saying he didn't consider himself a dirty player. The play he's referencing came when the Broncos were lining up to spike the ball and stop the clock near the end of the game. Nalen dove into Olshanksky's knee instead of simply standing up, which the rest of the players did. Olshansky then threw punches at Nalen and was ejected from the game. Nalen was fined $25,000 for the cheap shot and Olshanksy was fined $10,000 for his retaliation when it was all said and done. Nalen justified his actions by suggesting that Olshansky grabbed his facemask on the previous play.

So Olshanaky grabbed his face mask, and that would justify possibly maiming his knee for life. Makes sense to me. Seriously, anyone with a trace of common sense knows stuff like that happens all the time, with or without a Saints-style bounty.

I love how he can admit this yet claims not to be a dirty player.

Exactly. This is why Jolly Roger is hell-bent on making the game safer, by adding two more games where people with Nalen's mentality can attempt to maim in a selfish act instead of team-first concepts.

Give him credit for admitting the cut blocking used by the "other" four OL on the broncos was dirty play. Other teams barked about it for years. It was a taught technique.

For a guy that didn't say 10 words when he played.....did you have to drop that one on us Tommy?

"The truth shall set thee free". Must've been a guilty conscience made him spill the beans.

Olshanksy's an idiot and I'm sure he did much more than just grab his facemask. Also, I don't think there's an offensive lineman in the NFL that isn't dirty.

So ... you're sure "he did much more than just grab his facemask" yet you offered absolutely no proof of that whatsoever?

Well, at least you hit on the next point when you said you "don't think".

14 comments in and you wanna play the "proof" card. Go back to doing what you were doing before you posted 14 comments rook. This is a no proof zone. We don't need no stinkin proof.

I wish Nalen hadn't mentioned the episode. Bad things happen down in the trenches, no need to bring up the bad at a time of honor. The game is behind him now, save the war stories for a book.

So is life in the trenches!!!
