09:13 AM ET 05.26 | The loss of Everett Golson would be a major blow to Notre Dame's offense. In his first year as a starter, Golson helped the Irish reach the BCS title game, where Notre Dame lost to Alabama. It was Notre Dame's only loss of the season. Golson's 10 straight wins to begin his career are the second-most in school history. Golson did not see playing time in 2011. He appeared in 12 games and started 11 in 2012. Golson completed 58.8 percent of his passes for 2,405 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for 298 yards and a team-leading six scores. This spring, quarterback Gunner Kiel transferred to Cincinnati. Kiel did not take a snap at Notre Dame. Notre Dame has senior Tommy Rees and Andrew Hendrix and freshman Malik Zaire as scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. Rees is the most experienced of the group. He has appeared in 33 games and thrown for 4,413 yards and 34 touchdowns. Rees started 12 games in 2011 and threw for 2,871 yards and 20 touchdowns. He appeared in 11 games and made two starts last season. He passed for 436 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Last year, he led the Irish into position for a game-winning field goal against Purdue.

Ok piratey, come back and tell us how you feel about Rees

Please not that noodle-armed Tommy Rees. He runs like he's pushing a piano, has no arm strength, and always looks down his receiver.

No way he starts. No. No! NO!!

By the time this drama plays out, the school will embarrass Tommy into transferring to Kansas to play for Jabba.

Back to the QB drawing board for you guys.

There is no doubt that it's a set back, but I would like to see Andrew Hendrix get a shot. He can run and he has a cannon arm.

I would guess this is what Kelly will do. He knows he can always turn to Rees if Hendrix craters, whether the fans like it or not.

Leave it to an Old Time SC to have nothing to do on Memorial Day! At least our QB's earn a paycheck after they make it in the NFL and not while their in college playing football Oldtimer!

May 26, 2013  11:59 AM ET

I mean USC pays their QB's straight out of high school so they are all flop as pro's!

Are the echoes waking up now?

We couldn't use a SC QB at Notre Dame because he'd have the same problem as Golsen! He'd have to go to class and play football! At SC you just collect the check and play some ball!

The problem for SC QB's is when they get to the pro's they have to spit out their chewing gum and actually think and lead, thus they flop as pro's!

Real men in the NFL don't follow pretty boys from Southern California! Ask the Jets!

Barkley will flop along with the rest!
